The course typically consists of 4 lessons of approximately 2 hours each, which take place over four weeks. It is outdoors, so appropriate clothing & footwear should be worn. Please, when accepting a place on the course, be sure you are available to attend all 4 lessons. The fee for the full course is £90.00 & must be paid in order to secure a place. Payment is non refundable. We cannot accept beginners into the Club unless they have attended a full course.
When
Our Spring 2025 Beginners’ course is now fully booked.
Juniors
Unfortunately we are only equipped to train students aged 12 or over. For safety & safeguarding reasons, all under 18’s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times when at the archery club & they can only shoot when another adult club member is present.
Equipment
We provide all the necessary equipment for the course. Please, do not buy any equipment yourselves. If you join the club after the course, you can carry on using the club equipment until you are ready to buy your own & advise is available.
Clothing
You should wear comfortable but close-fitting clothing. If it’s chilly it’s better to wear several thin layers rather than one bulky one & perhaps bring a woolly hat. In particular it’s important that you don’t wear jumpers or jackets with baggy sleeves as bow strings tend to catch on them & spoil your shot. Similarly long hair may need to be tied back and nose, ear, eyebrow etc piercings removed for safety. Please wear suitable footwear ie. not open sandals etc.
Where
The South Oxon outdoor shooting range is located on the B481 at Reading Abbey RFC, Rosehill, Oxfordshire, RG4 8XA. Between Sonning Common and Emmer Green. Please note that this is not a postal address. An online map of our location is available on the Contacts Page.
Our clubhouse can be seen over on the righthand side of the drive as you approach the main Rugby Club building. Parking & toilets are available on site.
