Shooting Times
We shoot all the year round at the Abbey Rugby Club grounds RG4 8XA, where they obviously have priority on the ground at all times.
We can typically shoot during the day until 18:00 Monday to Thursday & Fridays until dark. Our Club shoots are on Saturday & Wednesday mornings, arriving at 09:30 to set up for a 10:00 shoot off.
There is no Sunday shooting during the Rugby Season.
We have an online booking system for members to reserve shooting time slots, for which there is no extra charge. We also have WhatsApp & email groups for members to stay in touch & receive updates etc.
Winter shooting
At the moment we have no Winter indoor shooting facilities. However, we do continue to shoot outdoors over the Winter period on the above basis. Often shooting a Frostbite Round, which is 6 sighter arrows, then 3 dozen arrows at 30 metres onto an 80cm target face.
Award Schemes
We run various Award schemes to recognise how archers progress on their own archery journey such as the 252, Frostbite & Classification schemes which are explained when members join the club.
Brief history of the club
The club was formed in 1951 as the ‘New Inn Archers’ & shot in a field behind The New Inn public house in Kidmore End village.
In 1970 the landowner decided he no longer wanted the club to use the land. We were fortunate, to be able to move to the Abbey Rugby Club & changed our name to the ‘South Oxon Archery Club’. (S.O.A.C). This explains why some of the trophies are inscribed “Formerly New Inn Archers”.
