We have ordered a couple of the foam layer type bosses with integral stands. They will be closed cell foam and tanalised timber, so will remain outside against the container when not in use. The club saw the need for these as we have a number of members using compound bows now. The high arrow impact which these bows cause, penetrated our softer Egertech straw bosses and made arrows extremely difficult to withdraw from the hard Italian straw bosses, also risking arrow damage.
The above 2 bosses are on a 6-7 week delivery, so as an interim measure we have obtained a foam layer boss from Merlin stock. At present it resides in the container, left flat on the trolley, as storage has not been arranged for it. A 3 leg stand has been adapted for it ie, it is the stand which has had the support arms lowered to take account of the large, square frame of the foam layer boss and it has no protecting front rubbers.
This boss is heavy and more difficult to handle than the traditional straw bosses.
INDIVIDUALS THEREFORE SHOULD NOT USE THIS BOSS FOR SOLO SHOOTING AS IT REQUIRES A MINIMUM OF TWO PERSONS TO ERECT. PLEASE ENSURE YOU OBSERVE THIS RULE TO AVOID ACCIDENT.
When used, this boss is lifted onto the special, lowered, 3 leg stand and guyed with rope and peg as normal, except that because of the layer construction, it is necessary to wind the guy ropes around the side straps before inserting the side spikes into the layers.
IF IN DOUBT – ASK! DON’T RISK INJURY!
